Aftercare

How to care for your piercings

For Non-Oral Piercings

What to Use:

Antibacterial hand soap- Any brand as long as it's fragrance free.

Softsoap, CVS Brand, Kroger Brand ect.

Reel Piercing carries a medicated version (Provon) for purchase at the shop

What NOT to Use:

sea salt, saline solution, wound wash, alcohol, Peroxide, or Neosporin

How to Clean Your Piercing in the Shower/Bath:

Use antibacterial hand soap once (1) a day to clean your piercing. Cleaning the piercing during your bath or shower is the best way to ensure proper cleaning. After washing hair (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) and body, clean your piercing. Make sure cleaning your piercing is the last thing you do.

Lather the soap in your hand until it is foamy (mixing with water will make the soap gentler).

Apply the foam to the pierced area and jewelry. (Do NOT scrub the area)

Slowly move the jewelry back and forth 5-10 times to get the soap into the actual piercing.

Put the pierced area under running water and slowly wiggle the jewelry back and forth 10-20 times to rinse the soap out.

You must make sure the soap is being completely rinsed off or you will develop extra redness around the pierced area.

How to clean the piercing in the sink:

Use a squirt bottle to wet the piercing first before applying soap. Use antibacterial hand soap once (1) a day to clean your piercing.

Lather the soap in your hand until it is foamy (mixing with water will make the soap gentler).

Apply the foam to the pierced area and jewelry. (Do NOT scrub the area)

Slowly move the jewelry back and forth 5-10 times to get the soap into the actual piercing.

Use the squirt bottle for the rinsing portion as it will get more water to the area to make sure the soap rinses all the way off. Slowly wiggle the jewelry back and forth 10-20 times to rinse the soap out.

You must make sure the soap is being completely rinsed off or you will develop extra redness around the pierced area.

If you don't wash your hair everyday, you still must clean the piercings for the recommended amount of time. Please use a shower cap or a squirt bottle for the cleaning of ear and facial piercings so you will not worry about getting your hair wet.
